A weekly message from Lee.
Dear Folks,
Last week, I got the first reminder of a renewal for the complicated homeowners insurance for us. The “biggie” in that portfolio doesn’t let us know the new rates until later this Spring. That it will go up, I have no doubt.
Like many folks, we carry - and depend upon - all kinds of insurance. It’s hard to think about my grandparents’ generation who carried no insurance for the early part of their lives.
I remember grumbling years ago about having to carry so much auto insurance while there were so many folks in our part of the country who were uninsured - there was a debate that year about what to do about uninsured motorists. I had recently been t-boned by such a motorist and the police and my insurance company told me the person at fault had no appreciable assets to use to pay for the damages. (Of course, I had uninsured motorist coverage but why interrupt a good grumble.).
It occurred to me in the middle of my grumbling that I carried insurance because I had a lot to lose without it. Whether it was material assets or my family’s health, I was fortunate to have so much to protect.
Sometimes, we need to remember to practice the “attitude of gratitude” and beginning our week with eucharista - i.e. thanksgiving - is a good start.
Peace
Lee
