A Message from Lee

Dear Folks,

It’s that time of year when there are graduations, school years end, and vacations start. Those “early years” experiences make a lasting impression! Even though it has been a long time since I actually was much affected by the school year which, back-in-the-day, was still based on the agricultural needs of the many small farms. There seems to be a lot of movement toward so-called all year schedules because the work situation of men and especially for women have changed.

Everybody knows change is difficult. Even positive changes cause stress. Time change causes distress apparently. Change can be hard to effect. With all the guessing about the direction of the new Pope, my guess is the (R) Catholic Church is so large, changes will be gradual and take time even if he is going to try to change anything.

There was a booklet put out by the Alban Institute and one of the cautions it advanced was that changes in churches always took twice as long as they should. While, in this place, AC needs to be fixed immediately, doctrinal or theological change should be undertaken with care. For example a Prayer Book change has to be approved by both the houses of Deputies and Bishops and in two consecutive conventions which are three years apart.

We all need to set time apart - e.g. in prayer and regular worship to re-center. Holy time is time set apart for just such reflection and restoration. Jesus regularly went off to pray and seek communion with Abba.

Peace

Lee
